Ryan Reynolds has signed on to star in the upcoming live-action Pokémon movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Justice Smith, who is in the second Jurassic World movie out in June 2018, and Kathryn Newton, from Big Little Lies, will also be characters in the film.

Reynolds will be playing Detective Pikachu who teams up with Smith’s character to search for her kidnapped father.  Newton is “a sassy journalist who helps them on their quest.”

They plan to star shooting in January in London.

Pokémon Go was an insanely popular app in the summer of 2016 so it’s no surprise a movie is in the works.
